  1. Responsible and accountable for systematic and smooth implementation of educational policies and prescribed curriculum.
  2. Submit proposals to prepare annual, mid-term and five year plans related to Education Sector Development Framework and Programme.
  3. Implementation of approved plans, progress review and monitoring.
  4. Organize and guide co-curricular and subject related affairs of schools.
  5. Introduce and implement curricular reforms.
  6. Review progress of the activities of the subject directors, in Service Advisors and project officers.
  7. Monitor and obtain the progress through the subject directors on the use of project grants and quality inputs provided to schools.
  8. Implement subject development activities as appropriate.
  9. Analyze student performance levels and taking necessary measures to improve quality of education based on findings of those analysis.
  10. Organize and implement professional and capacity development programmes for teachers.
  11. Guide, evaluate and monitor the education development activities of the Divisional Education Offices and other educational institutions.
  12. Organize and conduct subject related competitions at zonal level.
  13. Carrying out external evaluation prrogramme of schools, calculation of School Education Quality Index(SEQI), identification of development needs and act accordingly.
  14. Monitor and guide the school internal evaluation process.
  15. Internally evaluate , report and feedback the activities of the Education Development Division.
  16. Directing and implementing educational affairs of children with special needs and non-formal education.
